Step-by-Step Application Process
Create Account & Select Nationality
Start by visiting the official portal at electronic-visa.kdmid.ru. You will need to select your nationality from the dropdown menu to confirm eligibility. Create an account using a valid email address and a strong password. You will receive a confirmation email to activate your account.
Personal Information
Enter your personal details exactly as they appear in the machine-readable zone (MRZ) of your passport. This includes your surname, given names, date of birth, and gender.
Crucial: Even a minor typo in your name or date of birth will result in denied entry at the border. Double-check every letter.
Passport Details
Provide your passport number, date of issue, and date of expiry. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you intend to apply for the e-visa, and it must have at least blank pages for border stamps.
Photo Upload Requirements
You must upload a digital photograph. The system has strict automated checks for photo quality.

- Size: 10 KB to 5 MB
- Aspect ratio: 35x45
- Background: Solid white, no shadows
- Expression: Neutral, mouth closed, eyes open
Travel Details & Submission
Select your intended date of entry and the specific border checkpoint you will use. Provide the contact information for your accommodation in Russia (hotel name, address, phone number). Review the entire application summary carefully before clicking submit.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Name Mismatches
Entering names differently than the MRZ (bottom lines) of the passport. Hyphens, special characters, and middle names often cause confusion. Always follow the MRZ spelling.
Wrong Border Checkpoint
Selecting a border checkpoint that you do not end up using, or trying to enter through a checkpoint not authorized for e-visas (e.g., train travel from Belarus).
Poor Photo Quality
Uploading a photo with a non-white background, shadows on the face, or wearing glasses with glare. This is the most common reason for application rejection.
Applying Too Late
Applying exactly 4 days before travel. While processing takes 4 days, system outages or minor errors requiring re-application can delay your trip. Apply 10-20 days in advance.
