Tourist Voucher Validity
A Russian tourist voucher (also known as a tourist invitation or confirmation) has two distinct validity periods you need to be aware of:
- Submission Validity: The document itself is generally valid for submission to the consulate for up to 6 months from its date of issue. You must apply for your visa within this timeframe.
- Travel Validity: The voucher is valid for the specific travel dates printed on it, up to a maximum of 30 days. Your actual visa will be issued strictly for these dates.
If you do not apply for your visa within 6 months of the voucher being issued, the consulate may reject it, and you will need to purchase a new one.
Business LOI & Private Invitation Validity
Business LOI
Business invitations (Letters of Invitation) are valid for the specific period stated on the document, which can range from 30 days to 1 year (or up to 3 years for certain nationalities). The invitation must be valid at the exact moment you submit your visa application.
Private Invitation
Private invitations issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD/FMS) have a strict validity period of 90 days from the date of issue. If you fail to apply for your visa within this 90-day window, the invitation expires and your host must start the lengthy application process over again.
What Happens If Your Invitation Expires?
Russian visa invitations cannot be extended. If your invitation expires before you submit your visa application, you have no choice but to obtain a new one.
