Types of Long-Term Visas
When applying for a long-term visa to Russia, you generally have two main options, depending on your nationality and purpose of travel:
Business Visa (Most Common)
- Valid for up to 1 year (3 years for US citizens).
- Requires an official MVD invitation.
- For meetings, negotiations, and conferences.
- Does NOT permit paid employment in Russia.
Tourist Visa (Limited)
- Standard tourist visas are single/double entry for 30 days.
- Exception: US citizens can get 3-year multi-entry tourist visas.
- Requires a standard tourist voucher.
- Strict 90/180 day rule applies.

The 90/180 Day Rule Explained
The most crucial regulation for long-term Russian visas is the 90/180 day rule. This rule dictates that you cannot stay in Russia for more than 90 days within any given 180-day period.
How it works:
- If you stay in Russia for 90 consecutive days, you must leave and cannot return for another 90 days.
- If you make multiple short trips (e.g., 10 days here, 20 days there), you must keep a running total. Once your total days reach 90 within a 180-day window, you must leave.
- This rule applies to all multi-entry business and tourist visas, regardless of whether they are valid for 1 year or 3 years.

Requirements & Application Process
Obtain an Official Invitation
You cannot apply for a long-term visa without an invitation. For a 1-year business visa, you need an invitation issued by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). We can process this for you in 14-21 days.
