3. Order Your Invitation First
The visa invitation is the foundation of your application. Order it online — it uses the estimate shown before payment and pricing is shown before payment. Don't waste time trying to get one from a hotel or travel agency in Russia.
4. Fill Out the Application Form Carefully
Use the official form at visa.kdmid.ru. Double-check every field — especially your passport number, dates of birth, and travel dates. Mistakes here cause delays.
5. Match Your Dates Exactly
The dates on your visa application must match the dates on your invitation. If they don't match, the consulate will reject your application.
6. Get the Right Photo
The photo must be 3.5 × 4.5 cm with a white background. Many consulates are strict about this. Use a professional photo service to avoid issues.
7. Don't Forget Travel Insurance
Most consulates require travel insurance with coverage of at least €30,000 valid for the entire duration of your stay. Exception: US citizens don't need insurance for Russian visa applications.
8. Book a Consulate Appointment Early
Many Russian consulates require appointments, and slots can fill up weeks in advance, especially during summer travel season. Book as soon as you have your documents ready.
9. Keep Copies of Everything
Make copies of your passport, invitation, insurance, and application form. Some consulates require copies, and it's always good to have backups.
10. Consider Using a Visa Agency
If the nearest Russian consulate is far away, or you want to avoid the hassle, visa processing agencies can submit your documents on your behalf. They charge a service fee but save you time and travel.
