Visa-Free Entry for Chinese Citizens
Since August 2023, Chinese citizens can enter Russia without a visa for up to 30 days. This is part of a mutual visa-free agreement between Russia and China, making travel between the two countries significantly easier.
Visa-Free Conditions
- Maximum stay: 30 days per visit
- Purpose: Tourism, business, visiting relatives, transit
- Entry points: Any international border crossing
- Required documents: Valid Chinese passport only
- No invitation needed
- No registration required for stays under 30 days
When You Still Need a Visa
Chinese citizens still need a visa if:
- Staying longer than 30 days
- Working in Russia (work visa required)
- Studying in Russia (student visa required)
- Conducting journalistic activities (press visa required)
E-Visa Option
Chinese citizens are also eligible for the Russian e-visa, which allows a stay of up to 30 days. However, since the visa-free agreement allows 30 days, the e-visa is generally unnecessary for Chinese travelers unless they need official documentation for their employer.
Traditional Tourist Visa
For stays exceeding 30 days, Chinese citizens need a traditional tourist visa:
- Requires a visa invitation from a tourist-confirmation provider
- China is classified as a "restricted country" — invitation pricing is shown before payment
- Processing time: 5–10 business days at the consulate
